The end of 2012

2012 has treated me well. Nothing significantly big happened but neither did anything bad, so in my opinion that means it has been a pretty good year. The last couple of months has seen a lack of updates but it can't be helped since I'm swamped at my full-time job while juggling the holiday parties. Things should get back to normal soon after the holiday season, and you'll be able to see new updates and items at Little Maketto soon.

So at the close of yet another year, Little Maketto would like to thank everyone for the kind support and encouragement throughout 2012.
May you enjoy the merry holidays and have a great and happy new year!

A feature in female October online mag

One of my best friends Wan Lee, decided that Little Maketto and little 'ol me was newsworthy!

She's an awesome writer/editor and chose to feature some girls who make handmade jewellery. So this month, on the female October online magazine, Little Maketto and the girl behind-the-scenes are featured alongside other great handmade jewellery artists - Wendy from The Mini Diary and Amelia from Crafted by Mei

Little Maketto has always been my little pride and joy. It's something I retreat to when I need to expand some creativity and imagination. I work full-time and Little Maketto is sadly only a part-time love, so it's very humbling to be interviewed and featured in the main media.

Now why not head on over to the female website and read the article where you'll get to learn a little more about me? Also in conjunction with the article, I've tied up with the female team in a giveaway where you can win some Little Maketto handmade goodies!!!

How can you participate in this contest? female will be running a pop-up contest and to find out more just remember to LIKE the female FB and Little Maketto FB so you can stay updated on all the happenings.

6th Bead Soup Bead Party - Bead Reveal

Time flies..! It's already time for the 2nd Reveal of the 6th BSBP! This is my first time participating in the Lori Anderson's extraordinary Bead Soup Blog Party and I had a fabulous time with the jewellery-making challenges this project brought along.

My partner if you remember is Adlinah from DreamStruck Designs. She sent me a beautiful soup but, dear me, these weren't beads or colours I normally work with! I'm a little more used to creating designs using 10mm and bigger beads. Adlinah's soup for me contained more delicate beads.

I fell in love with the antique gold flower toggle clasp and immediately knew I wanted to pair it up with the handmade BLOOM tag. I decided later to create little blooms using the little milky pink and chartreuse rounds. And the rest just came along naturally as I continued making the bracelet. The little bead bundle is made of various beads I found in my own stash including some padparadscha swarovski bicones,  tiny pale pink faux pearls and some Czech round and leaf beads.

The focal pendant was more tricky. I dangled some of the Czech glass flowers at the bottom of the lampwork pendant but set it aside for more than a week deciding how to incorporate other beads in the necklace design. The challenge for myself was to incorporate some of the yellow ab seed beads. I don't usually use seed beads because I find stringing them a pain. But in the end I strung two strands of the seed beads (without a beading needle!!) and wondered what to do with them. It was only last week I had a breakthrough and decided to do a braid of the seed beads, the faux pink suede cord and some really old AB cube beads (accented by pale pink faux pearls). This is my first time using this technique and I'm very happy with the braid turned out (it did take a couple of trials and errors). The other side of the necklace, was simple wirework with beads and a pink organza ribbon to bring everything together.

I still have a bunch of beads left over and I know I want to create a pair of earrings with the pink ceramic rounds by Keith O'Connor. I'm still stuck for ideas so until I can create something worthy of their beauty they will be left untouched...

A big shoutout goes to Lori Anderson for hosting and organizing this wonderful bead soup party and my partner Adlinah Kamsir for providing me such a pretty soup. I love creative challenges and making new friends!!

Now after reading my rather long post on this, it's time to do some blog hopping!!! Please go on over to DreamStruck Designs and see what Adlinah created with the beads I sent her.

6th Bead Soup Blog Party - Bead Soup in pictures

Bead Soup Blog Party

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr5_m97Bbn7AOQt_pAmfgPIlX5I-xYgdQl2xF30pbdw-d_9IGVEq_8Lx-ikdtBdFF_jjWl9teCuaIoy6veCdUD0q5naHtmVrmFFhEJ9p95M_O4VmmJ_UVi1D9-Z2TJPgOPpWqDSP0KljLT/s1600/reveal2.jpg

I've been off the grid for awhile. Blame it on busy work and social schedule. Today I've finally managed to dedicate my time to my jewellery making. Amidst my supposedly busy schedule I've managed to take part in Lori Anderson's annual Bead Soup Blog Party. It's already on its 6th year and boy do we have tons of participants this year! Lori has informed that we have a total of 400 participants from all over the world this round. That's like a huge, huge amount of blogs to visit. But it'll be so great to find so many new jewellery artists and make new friends.

For those uninitiated, a bead soup party involves you creating a soup of beads and swapping them with your partner. Using the beads your partner sent, you have to dig into your creative minds and hands to make something worthy of the gorgeous beads.

My partner is the wonderfully easy-going Adlinah Kamsir from DreamStruck Designs of Singapore. I'm not sure if Lori purposely picked us to be partners because we're neighbouring countries (I'm from Malaysia which is just north of Singapore), but we were pretty thrilled to be partners because the delivery time was cut much shorter. However, it still took us about a week to receive each other's bead soup.

Anyway, when I got my package from Adlinah, I was super-excited!!! But having received it on Tuesday, meant I would not have the time to photograph the beads until the weekend. But the weekend's here so here are the pictures! Adlinah really took into consideration as to what beads would provide me with a challenge.

The bead soup came packaged in a beautiful white box tied with a shoelace-like ribbon. Beads and finding were neatly packed in zip-lock bags together with descriptions.

Aren't the colours so pretty? Definitely a challenge because the beads are all so delicate and I seldom work with antique gold findings.

Clockwise from top-left: Focal lampwork glass pendant and resin pendant (made by Adlinah herself!); Swarovski crystal beads -rose water opal,  Fired polished rounds -chartreuse & milky pink, Ceramic star beads -lime green; Green rubber o-rings, Cloisonne beads, Ceramic rounds -Keith O'Connor; Czech glass flowers, Lampwork glass rondelles

Clockwise from top-left: Yellow AB seed beads; Pink faux suede cord, Shell rectangels -Japan, Pink sew-on glass beads; Ornate flower pewter clasp, Stamped metal blank (made by Adlinah!), Antique gold metal spaces, Vintage copper butterfly lockets, Gold faux metal plastic beads

Quite a stash don't you think?? Love every bit of the bead soup. Can't wait to start creating something worthy of these gorgeous beads! Big thank you to Adlinah!

You can visit her blog here: DreamStruck Designs and see what beads I sent her...

Happy Beading everyone!
